Ronald “Ronnie” King Dies at 74, Leaving Behind a Life Built Around Family and Trucking

For many years, the open road was a familiar part of life for Ronald Wayne “Ronnie” King. The longtime truck driver and business owner died peacefully at his Inez home on August 25, 2026, at the age of 74.

Born May 14, 1952, in Winchester, Kentucky, Ronnie was the son of the late Edgar and Nina Engle King. Over the course of his life, he built a career around trucking while creating a family legacy that will remain important to those closest to him.

Years on the Road With DeRon Trucking

Trucking was more than simply an occupation for Ronnie.

After spending years behind the wheel, he became the owner and operator of DeRon Trucking, giving him the opportunity to build a business around the work he knew well.

Operating a trucking business required long hours and dedication, and that chapter of Ronnie’s life became an important part of his story. Those years reflected the hardworking nature for which he will be remembered.

Away from work, however, family remained at the heart of his life.

The Family Ronnie Leaves Behind

Ronnie is survived by his wife, Sarah Deniese Slone King, along with a family that includes children, grandchildren and extended relatives.

His surviving children are Ronnie Burton and his wife, Amanda, of Georgetown, Kentucky, and Ron King and his wife, Kelli, of Tallahassee, Florida. He is also survived by his stepson, Chris Goss and his wife, Paula.

His grandchildren, nieces and nephews were also an important part of his life. The relationships he shared with them created memories that will continue long after his passing.

Remembering Loved Ones Who Died Before Him

Ronnie experienced the loss of several members of his family during his lifetime.

Along with his parents, Edgar and Nina King, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Michael Lee King, Jimmy Dale King, David Allen King and Eddie King.

His sister, Patty Banks, and stepson, Kelly Ray Click, also preceded him in death.

Their names remain part of the King family’s story as relatives now prepare to say goodbye to Ronnie.

Final Farewell Planned in Inez

Family and friends will gather on Saturday, August 29, to remember Ronnie and pay their respects.

Visitation will take place from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Crum Funeral Home in Inez. His funeral will begin at 1 p.m. in the funeral home’s chapel, with Terry Dalton officiating.

Following the service, Ronnie will be laid to rest at Goble Cemetery on Spring Branch Road in Inez.

Rather than sending flowers, those wishing to support the family may make contributions toward funeral expenses through Crum Funeral Home.

A Life His Family Will Continue to Remember

Ronnie’s 74 years included countless miles traveled, years of hard work and, most importantly, relationships with the people he loved.

His trucking career and ownership of DeRon Trucking will remain part of how many people remember him, but his family carries something more personal: the conversations, gatherings and ordinary moments they were able to share with him.

As Sarah, his children, grandchildren and extended family prepare for his funeral, those memories will become an enduring connection to a husband, father, grandfather and relative whose place within the family cannot be replaced.
